June 28, 2016 - I met Former Attorney General Eric Holder and Ernest Green of the Little Rock Nine on Tuesday, June 28, 2016.
Here's the story...
My dad called me after work.
Dad: "Blair, are you off of work?" Blair: "Yes" Dad: "Are you well dressed?" Blair: "Well, I mean I am wearing the clothes I wore to work...so I am in jeans." Dad: "I guess that's fine. Come to the Marriott Marquis, you are going to meet Eric Holder tonight."
I thought there would be no more events to attend after the many I had the privilege of attending the previous weekend. I was gladly mistaken, but I couldn't attend in the jeans I had worn to work.
Fortunately, I was standing inside of Current Boutique, one of my favorite consignment shops in Washington, DC. Miraculously, the hijab I wore to work coordinated perfectly with the Tory Burch dress and Kate Spade pumps I spotted.
Turns out that the event my father had invited me was the Sigma Pi Phi Boulé's inaugural "Salute to the Secretaries" which honored all of the African American White House cabinet secretaries.
Of the 21 current and former African American White House cabinet secretaries, 10 were in attendance. Ernest Green of the Little Rock Nine announced several of the honorees. I was honored to be among such #BlackExcellence and to get to meet and take photos with my heroes Dr. (Uncle) Terry Roberts, Ernest Green, and Attorney General Holder.
Thanks for stopping by!
P.S. I interviewed Dr. Roberts when I was in middle school.
