Hull Freedom Festival: Let’s Talk about Freedom

The Freedom Talks present Let’s Talk about Freedom

In an era of increasing social isolation, a climate of false truth and lack of facts, how do we encourage each other to debate again, to negotiate, to really take responsibility for our actions, to listen to others?

Hull, the city of William Wilberforce, the great abolitionist, a city that has notions of Freedom in its bones, but are we really free? Has slavery really been abolished? What does Freedom really mean now? Does protest actually matter?

How do we become more responsible for our actions?

How do we nurture and encourage responsibility?

Freedom Festival in partnership with the University of Hull will present a series of panel discussions and live events during Freedom Festival 2017 and in the week leading up to the festival.

Events, discussions and exhibitions which combine to explore ‘freedom’ through issues of identity, culture, knowledge, responsibility, protest and democracy are all woven and complemented by a talks and debates program like no other.

This programme of work includes traditional debates and talks platforms and a curiously provocative layer of live performance, exhibitions presented in non traditional gallery spaces and extraordinary interventions in public space, retail units and very special hair salon which will all combine to encourage and create debate, to lead a wide demographic of audiences from discussions to live events and vice versa.
